Overview
Biology explores life from molecules to cells, revealing the principles that govern living systems. Volume 1 focuses on cellular structure and function, molecular genetics, metabolism and the regulatory networks that sustain organisms. Clear explanations of experimental evidence, microscopy images and pathway diagrams build conceptual understanding. Problem sets, lab exercises and conceptual summaries reinforce critical thinking and scientific reasoning. The text emphasizes how cellular processes relate to health, biotechnology and research methods. It is aimed at undergraduates and anyone seeking a rigorous introduction to modern cell biology.
Author Bio
Dr. Snigdha Singh is an accomplished researcher and educator in medicinal chemistry and nanoscience, currently serving as Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Delhi and Deputy Director of the Institute of Nano Medical Sciences, University of Delhi. With a distinguished academic trajectory and extensive international research exposure, she has established herself as a leading young scientist in the field of chemical and biomedical research.
She earned her Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Delhi (2021), under the supervision of Prof. Ramesh Chandra, where her thesis focused on the synthesis and development of novel heterocycles and their biological evaluation. Prior to that, she completed her M.Tech. in Chemical Synthesis and Process Technologies (CSPT) at the University of Delhi with first division (2016) and her B.Sc. (Hons) in Chemistry from Hindu College, University of Delhi (2013), graduating with top merit distinctions. Her academic excellence was recognized early with a merit fellowship and multiple university-level awards.
Dr. Singh’s professional journey reflects a unique blend of teaching, research, and leadership roles. Beyond her faculty appointment, she has served as Resident Tutor at Ambedkar-Ganguly Students House for Women, and has held prestigious international positions, including Postdoctoral Associate at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (USA), Guest Scientist at Humboldt University (Germany), and Visiting Scientist at Lobachevsky University (Russia). She was also selected as an Indo-UK Newton Bhabha Scholar at the University of Oxford and an Indo-Italy Exchange Scholar at the University of Siena, further expanding her global research collaborations.
Her research contributions span drug design, nanostructures for biomedical applications, and innovative drug delivery systems. She has published extensively in high-impact journals such as ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering, RSC Advances, Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry, and Inorganic Chemistry Communications, alongside several book chapters and authored textbooks. She is also a co-inventor on an international patent related to hydroxyethylamine-based piperazine compounds (2022). In addition, she has mentored Ph.D. candidates and supervised more than 27 graduate and postgraduate students.
Dr. Singh’s work has been recognized through numerous honors, including the Indo Asian Young Women Researcher Award (2024), Young Researcher in Medicinal Chemistry Award (2024), and the Teacher Excellence Award (2023). She has received multiple international travel fellowships and was ranked 19th All-India in the UGC-CSIR NET Examination (2017).
An active member of leading scientific societies such as the Royal Society of Chemistry, American Chemical Society, and Indian Science Congress Association, Dr. Singh also serves as a reviewer for several international journals. Her career reflects a deep commitment to advancing chemical sciences while fostering global academic exchange and mentoring the next generation of researchers.
