Overview
This book explores the chemical nature of air pollutants and their profound effects on human health and the environment. It provides a detailed examination of major pollutants such as particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, and volatile organic compounds. The book discusses the sources of these pollutants and their chemical transformations in the atmosphere. Mitigation strategies and policies for controlling air pollution are thoroughly analyzed. It is an essential reference for students, scientists, and policymakers working in environmental chemistry and public health.

Dr. Gábor Kovács is a lecturer at the Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania, Faculty of Technical and Human Sciences, Department of Horticulture in Târgu Mureș, Romania. He has been in this role since 2021. Kovács obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Chemistry/Applied Electrochemistry from Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, Romania in 2007 and 2008, respectively. He later earned his PhD in Chemistry from Babeș-Bolyai University in 2012. Prior to his current lecturing position, Kovács had several research roles. He was an (assistant) Researcher at the Babeș-Bolyai University Faculty of Physics / Institute of Interdisciplinary Bio-Nano Sciences in Cluj-Napoca. Kovács also held postdoctoral research positions, including at the Department of Applied and Environmental Chemistry, University of Szeged in Hungary, and the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology, University of Szeged in Hungary. Kovács has taught a variety of chemistry-related courses at B.Sc. and M.Sc. level, including General Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Corrosion and Anticorrosive Protection, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry and Phytosanitary Chemistry and Toxicology. Kovács has led several research projects funded by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the National Research, Development and Innovation Office of Hungary. These projects have focused on areas such as synthesis, characterization and applicability of photocatalytic nanostructures, carbon nanotube-based composites, and the development of noble metal-TiO2 based photoactive catalysts.
