This Hebrew monograph is a programmatic attempt to describe central types of mystical experience of revelation in Jewish sources from the Hebrew Bible through the medieval Kabbalah. The book investigates visionary and aural aspects of prophetic and ecstatic experiences. Close textual readings are offered to these mystical testimonies in which the mystic becomes vocal and recounts praises of the Divine. The nature of the linguistic imagery is explored with a sensitivity to its relationship to myths and metaphors which account for introverted and extroverted types of mysticism.
