Overview
Since the eighth century, Catalonia formed part of the Carolingian Empire and constituted a frontier between Christian and Muslim territories. This book highlights the close relationship between archaeology and history. Archaeology provides indispensable evidence, particularly for aspects of the Middle Ages that are poorly documented in written sources. It has played a key role in reconstructing settlement patterns and territorial organization during the early medieval period. Likewise, excavations in urban centres and rural landscapes have enhanced our understanding of society in the High Middle Ages.
