Black History Heroes: Jackie Robinson

Jackie Robinson was the first Black player in Major League Baseball, the first Black TV analyst for the sport, and the first Black vice president of an American corporation. Through his character, commitment to nonviolence, and exceptional talents, Robinson transformed baseball and significantly influenced almost every aspect of American sports and culture.

Patricia Pete grew up in Sarasota, Florida, and earned a BFA in film from Ringling College of Art and Design. A lifelong storyteller, she finds inspiration in narratives of all kinds—whether on the page, the screen, or beyond. When she’s not writing, she enjoys journaling, reading, and taking dramatic close-up photos of food.
