Overview
The brutal reality of war entered Hanna Rabinowicz’s life in 1939. Within days, German troops conquered her hometown Lodz and began to target the local Jewish community. Hanna, together with her future husband, Gabriel, made the difficult decision to head east and flee into the Soviet occupation zone. Hanna’s depictions of the fate and the challenges of Jewish refugees in the Soviet Union and of postwar Poland from a Jewish perspective shed light on an aspect of Holocaust history that is often overlooked.
