Across a wide range of programs in international higher education, students prepare themselves for a career in their professional field. Learning how to communicate as a professional is an essential part of that preparation. In order to carry out their communication tasks, professionals must possess a large repertoire of knowledge and skills. They also must be able to decide what best suits the situation and the goals they want to achieve. Already during their training, students come across a variety of communication tasks that are largely new to them. Author Bio

Prof. dr. Carel Jansen is a professor emeritus in Communication and Information Studies at the University of Groningen. He is affiliated as a research fellow with the Language Centre at Stellenbosch University. Prof. dr. Leon de Stadler is a professor emeritus specialized in Document Design. He was the director of the Language Centre of Stellenbosch University, and he also worked as visiting professor at the universities of Nijmegen and Groningen. Currently he runs his own consultancy. Aline Douma is a PhD student in the Department of English Language and Culture at the University of Groningen. Prior to starting her PhD, she completed a double major in Communication and Information Studies and English Language and Culture, and obtained a Research Master's degree in Classical, Medieval and Early Modern Studies.
