Author Bio

David M. Skoloda is a retired journalist, Vietnam Navy veteran, and longtime advocate for land conservation. During a distinguished newspaper career, he earned two National Newspaper Farm Editor of the Year awards while serving at the Milwaukee Journal and later co-owned weekly newspapers in Holmen and Onalaska. Following his journalism career, he taught communications as an adjunct professor at Winona State University and served on the board of Mississippi Valley Conservancy, where his passion for protecting the Driftless Region inspired this first book. He holds a bachelor's degree in political philosophy from the University of Minnesota and completed graduate study in rural studies at the University of Wisconsin through a National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship.
