Overview

What if life’s greatest annoyances held some of its deepest lessons?

In Praise of Houseflies: Meditations on the Gifts in Everyday Quandaries is a lyrical collection of Christian essays exploring the unexpected gifts hidden in life's ordinary frustrations and difficulties.

Drawing on experiences of missionary life in Ethiopia, pandemic isolation, marriage, and motherhood, Elise Tegegne reflects on how inconveniences, loneliness, boredom, humiliation, pain, and everyday routines can become opportunities for spiritual growth.

Through personal storytelling, literary reflection, Scripture, and the wisdom of spiritual writers, Tegegne invites readers to discover God's grace in the overlooked details of daily life. Rather than dismissing hardship, she considers how a more attentive perspective can open the way to humility, compassion, and deeper faith.
