Author Bio
N. Jeremi Duru is Professor of Law and Director of the Sport & Society Initiative at American University’s Washington College of Law. He earned degrees from Harvard Law School, Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, and Brown University. Duru is one of the nation’s foremost sports law authorities, having authored or co-authored five books in the space, including one of the field’s premier textbooks, Sports Law and Regulation: Cases and Materials and one of the field’s premier explorations of sports agency, The Business of Sports Agents. He has conducted research or delivered lectures throughout the world and on every continent (other than Antarctica) and believes strongly in the transformative power of sport. He lives in Silver Spring, MD and is married with three children, for whom he wrote this book.Shani M. King is Professor of Law and the Martha L. Minow Scholar at Rutgers Law School, as well as a children’s rights lawyer. He earned degrees from Harvard Law School, Brown University, and Oxford University. King is the multiple award-winning author of Have I Ever Told You (2019) and Have I Ever Told You Black Lives Matter (2021), the latter praised by The New York Times Book Review, Entertainment Weekly, the San Francisco Chronicle, and Booklist. He is also the editor of The Oxford Handbook of Children’s Rights Law (2020 Oxford University Press). His most recent children’s book, Finding Rebecca: The Forgotten Life of Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler, America’s First Black Female Doctor, was hailed by Kirkus Reviews as “a study in perseverance—both that of the book’s subject and the author who unearthed her story.” Originally from Brookline, Massachusetts, King now lives in Montclair, New Jersey, with his wife and two children, who inspire his work.John Jay Cabuay is an illustrator based in New York City, known for his distinctive, dynamic artwork that has adorned the covers of newspapers, magazines, and book jackets around the world. With an MFA in Illustration from the Fashion Institute of Technology, John’s work blends vivid storytelling with artistic mastery. His recent illustration for the picture book Dear Ruby, Hear Our Hearts by Ruby Bridges, published by Scholastic, is a testament to his ability to bring powerful narratives to life. John Jay’s work has been showcased in prestigious collections such as the Society of Illustrators and American Illustration Annuals. In addition to his successful illustration career, he passionately teaches figure drawing at the Fashion Institute of Technology and fashion illustration at The New School, inspiring the next generation of creatives.
