Overview
Proficiency Press has seen the need to provide an assessment tool for the novice level of language instruction, for ESL and World Language Learners, due to the demand for proficiency and communicative competence in our global society coupled with the World-Readiness for Learning Languages. Evaluation is no longer conducted though the multiple-choice style of testing. Teachers need to assess the students' abilities in a more natural setting. Portfolio Assessment Through the 5 Cs for the Novice Level World Language Student addresses this need especially when accompanied by the Teacher's Handbook. Teachers have been given a choice of many different authentic performance based assessment tasks for each topic. A situation has been created which allows the student to react and answer, as if he/she were in the real world, to tasks based on the 5 Cs, which evaluate the students' progress. The teachers are provided with various possibilities for items to be inserted into a portfolio being developed for the individual student.
