Overview
                                The author argues that the individual and continuing self emerges from human interactions and that the interactions at issue are the relations of opposition. The argument then proceeds to show how the same relations of opposition constitute the self as endowed with free will.
                                                            Author Bio
                                Piotr Hoffman studied philosophy in Poland and in France. He taught philosophy at the University of California, Berkeley and is now Professor Emeritus at the University of Nevada, Reno. He is the author of eight books and many articles in professional journals and anthologies.
