Overview

"If you look at the way critics describe Lovecraft ... they often say he's purple, overwritten, overblown, verbose, but it's un-put-downable. There's something about that kind of hallucinatorily intense purple prose which completely breaches all rules of 'good writing', but is somehow utterly compulsive and affecting." - China Miéville, Science Fiction Studies

Since his stories began to appear in magazines such as Weird Tales in the 1920s and 30s, H. P. Lovecraft and his vivid imagination have been entertaining generations of readers with tales that both drew upon and pushed the boundaries of the genres of horror and science fiction.

This collection contains 71 of Lovecraft's brilliant tales, including well-known gems such as 'The Call of Cthulhu', 'The Case of Charles Dexter Ward' and 'The Color Out of Space' as well as lesser known works.

Filled with suspense, amazing creatures and sensationally scary scenarios, this chronologically ordered collection of his short stories and novellas demonstrates the power of Lovecraft's ability to thrill and entertain.

ABOUT THE SERIES: The Arcturus Pulp Classics series brings together classic short story collections from across the fantasy, science fiction, and horror genres, strikingly presented in hardback gift editions with silver cover accents and full-color page edges.

Author Bio
H. P. Lovecraft was born in Providence, Rhode Island, in the US in 1890. Influenced by various literary interests, first in the Tales of Arabian Nights, then Greek mythology and also gothic tales told to him by his grandfather, Lovecraft mixed these together with an interest in science and gave voice to his ideas in a series of dark tales of fantasy and horror. He suffered from ill health, at one point having a nervous breakdown, and he was unable to attend university, which was a huge disappointment to him. He died in 1937. But his legacy lives on in a body of work that has inspired countless films, TV series, board games and toys, as well as many other writers.
