Overview
Happiness Is Not Determined by Your Age: There is strong evidence that age is not a determinant of emotional well-being. You can be happy at any age and you can be sad at any age. Your age may have some effect on where and how you live, your relationships with others, or your health. However, factors such as living conditions and relationships influence people of all ages. If a 30-yearold man were institutionalized and denied interaction with his friends, it is not likely that he would feel very happy. A 25-year-old woman may feel depressed if she discontinues all of her favorite activities. Symptoms of psychological distress may be experienced at any age in which distressing circumstances exist. Although older age may coincide with a restricted lifestyle which may generate psychological distress, it does not follow that older age is the cause of the restricted conditions nor of the emotional disturbance.
