Overview
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging test that uses light waves to take cross-sectional images of anatomical structures of the eye, such as the retinal layers. OCT Angiography (OCTA) builds on this technology to visualise blood flow within those structures by detecting motion of red blood cells over time. The key difference is that OCT shows the static, structural anatomy of the eye, whereas OCTA reveals the dynamic vascular networks. These techniques are recognised worldwide as essential devices for diagnosis, assessment and follow up of retinal diseases and glaucoma.
OCTA, a non-invasive and dye-free imaging modality, is gaining prominence and has begun to replace traditional dye-based angiography in many clinical settings.
The fourth edition of this comprehensive manual has been fully revised to provide clinicians and trainees with the most recent advances in OCT and OCTA imaging, emphasising the integration of the two techniques in the diagnosis and evaluation of retinal pathologies, as they become increasingly used in combination.
The book supports a wide audience - ophthalmologists, residents, ophthalmic technicians, orthoptists, and optometrists - in understanding and interpreting the complex imaging data produced by OCT and OCTA devices.
Authored by renowned experts based in Italy, the book is designed to be both educational and practical, serving as a vital resource in modern ophthalmic imaging.
