Overview
Geriatric nutrition addresses how ageing alters metabolism, body composition, and nutrient requirements across the later life course. This book opens with physiology of ageing and nutritional vulnerabilities—sarcopenia, frailty, and changes in appetite and taste. It then presents practical assessment tools for malnutrition and dysphagia, plus evidence-based dietary strategies to maintain function and prevent decline. Chapters discuss nutritional management in chronic disease, medication-nutrient interactions, and tailoring interventions across care settings from community to long-term care. Implementation guidance includes menu planning, oral supplementation, and monitoring outcomes. Aimed at dietitians, geriatricians, and multidisciplinary care teams, it combines clinical evidence with pragmatic care plans.
