Overview
Set in the borderlands of North County, San Diego, My North County examines the lasting consequences of decades of militarized border policy and the ways those policies shape the lives of the people who call the region home. These poems are meditations on friendship, artistic community, and the transformative possibilities of writing and sharing poetry. In My North County, Alfredo Aguilar holds poetry up to the light to ask us what it can—and cannot—do in the face of political realities, revealing a moving testament to the sustaining power of friendship, art, and language.
