Author Bio
Often called the 'Father of American Literature', Washington Irving was born in New York City in 1783 and is considered to be the first American author to have made a living from writing. His best-known works are the political satire Knickerbocker's History and his collections of wry short stories which include 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow' and 'Rip Van Winkle'.
