Overview

Provides a detailed account of the spread of witch hunting throughout Europe and to America.

Includes letters and quotes from those charged with witchery, some self-proclaimed witches and those who claimed to have witnessed witch 'sabbats'.

Explores the social and political contexts which triggered these savage witch-hunts, such as misogyny, religious hysteria and even paedophilia.

Looks at key-figures of witch hunting, such as Matthew Hopkins (the so-called Witchfinder General), who took the hunt to an incredible extreme and was responsible for hundreds of executions.
